Kidney Health Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take my insurance?

At this time, we accept traditional Medicare, Cigna, Aetna (including Medicare Advantage through Aetna), and United Healthcare.  We can also work with BCBS if you have out-of-network benefits.

If we do not take your insurance and you do not have out-of-network benefits, all sessions are cash-pay.

Please email info@vidaeats.co (NOT .com) OR call 813-421-9216 to make an appointment. We provide a benefit check guide to help you verify your nutrition benefits with your insurance company.

Medicare ONLY covers 3 sessions a year for Chronic Kidney Disease, Diabetes, and recent kidney transplant only.

Commercial insurance usually covers a wide variety of conditions and preventative counseling as well as more sessions per year.

What is your counseling style?

While each of our dietitians may have a slightly different style, one of our core principles at VidaEats is behavior change therapy and motivational interviewing. The five pillars of motivational interviewing are: autonomy, acceptance, adaptation, empathy, and avocation. Our dietitians use active listening and meet the patient where they are before making recommendations.

I don’t eat the typical western diet. Can you still provide advice?

Yes! Depending on your preferences, you will be scheduled with a dietitian who is familiar with your culture and can make recommendations that are appropriate within that diet. Here at VidaEats, we pride ourselves in being culturally competent.

Do you accept Out-of-Network Benefits?

Yes!! The client must verify that they have out-of-network benefits on their policy. Blue Cross Blue Shield may cover our services if you have OON benefits. VidaEats does not verify OON benefits.

I don’t have CKD, can I still work with VidaEats?

Yes!! Our dietitians all specialize in CKD, but many have other specialities such as diabetes, heart disease, blood pressure management, GI disorders, etc. Reach out to us to see if we are a good fit for your needs! (Medicare covers sessions for CKD and diabetes only).
